Preventing Insect Bites
While the best remedy for treating bug bites is to not get bit in the first place. We at BugBiteDr know that is not very realistic. There are however some steps you can take to reduce the amount of bug bites you do receive while enjoying the great outdoors.
Long Pants and Shirts – This is a great option when it is cooler out. But when its 90 degrees out putting on pants and longs sleeves is probably the last thing you want to do.
Spraying your clothes with Permethrin – This is especially effective if you are going into area’s with a lot of ticks. Lymes is a very serious disease if not treated right away. The downside of Permethrin is if you have cats or dogs, you need to treat your clothes and let them dry completely away from your animals. Permethrin is a powerful neurotoxin to cats/dogs and even a small amount of exposure can be life threatening.
Bug Repellent – Still probably the easiest and best way to keep skeeters, ticks and most other bugs away from you. The downside is biting fly’s don’t seem to care if you are wearing bug spray.
